International Conference on Assisted Dying & Gambling Deaths

The Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law – International Conference

On Wednesday, 11th June 2025 the Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law  conference will have three international speakers on Assisted Dying, from Canada, Holland and Victoria in Australia.

  • Professor Udo Schuklenk (Queen’s University, Canada)
  • Nicola Farray (Department of Health & Human Services, Victoria, Australia)
  • Dr Cécile Woudenberg-van den Broek (Maastricht University, Netherlands)

Prof Christopher Dorries will be doing a short presentation with Dr Alicia Danielsson, briefly comparing other Assisted Dying practices in other jurisdictions around the world, and Tim Brennand will be chairing a panel discussion at the end of the day.

The afternoon speakers include the founders of ‘Gambling with Lives’. Mr Charles Ritchie and Mrs Liz Ritchie

This free, one-day, hybrid-format event will gather leading international voices in law, medicine, and ethics to examine how societies across the globe are navigating end- of-life choices as well as hearing about gambling related suicides. With a focus on international comparison, lived professional experience, and legal and ethical implications, the conference aims to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue
